How cool is she??? Leeann Whiffen, author of “A Child’s Journey Out of Autism: One Family’s Story of Living in Hope and Finding a Cure” is an amazingly talented writer. As I read her book, I identified with her feelings, her thoughts, her tears, her triumphs, her day-to-day life events. We will be auctioning off THREE of these books – all autographed – at an NAA of Central North Dakota event coming up in July. I will keep you posted. And Leeann…I am grateful to know you. Thank you for your generous contribution and for not giving up your own fight! You are a true inspiration!!!!

I wanted to share a quote from a book I’m reading – “A Child’s Journey Out of Autism: Our Family’s Story of Living in Hope and Finding a Cure” by Leeann Whiffen. It summarizes very well the connection I feel with my Autism Friends:

“…I realize I have become a member of a new club. Whether or not I want to join this group is beside the point. I’m a member regardless…I feel an instant closeness to them. They know my pain; I know theirs. They are walking this lonely path, suffering through sleepless nights, and shedding many tears in grieving for their child. Are we related? By blood, no. By circumstances, yes. There’s a tacit bond unlike any other…It’s a sisterhood.”

So to my Autism Friends – thank you. Thank you for crying with me, for laughing with me, and for just plain understanding. Nobody “gets it” like you do. And for that, I am grateful.
